RHINOPLASTY SURGERY
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the Pakistan. Even small changes can give patients dramatic results and create a more balanced look with the rest of their face. You need to trust that your plastic surgeon has a creative eye and the surgical experience necessary to meet your aesthetic goals.
There are two types of nose jobs.
1. Closed Rhinoplasty
Most closed rhinoplasty patients can go back to work after one week, but full recovery depends on the type of surgery and the technique of your surgeon. Very gentle tissue handling and closed technique really help the nose look much more normal after the first week. There will be some swelling, which can increase a bit after the second week, but it’s usually not that noticeable for most patients. The splint or hard plastic cover on the nose comes off after seven days in most surgeons’ hands. There is bruising after a week in about a third of my patients, but many don’t have any bruising after that week and what remains can generally be covered with makeup. Because I do closed (scar less) rhinoplasty in all cases, the healing time is significantly reduced as there’s no external incision to heal.
2. Open Rhinoplasty
“Open rhinoplasty increases swelling and healing time and as a result recovery can take much longer. The swelling can remain for three to four months, although the vast majority will go in two to three weeks. Open rhinoplasty also increases the risk of tip necrosis (death of tissue and loss of the tip of the nose), which is virtually unheard of in closed rhinoplasty,” The results of an open rhinoplasty procedure (three weeks post-procedure):
Can Rhinoplasty Improve Your Breathing ?
When many people think of plastic surgery on the nose—also known as rhinoplasty—they think of it being done for cosmetic reasons. However, it’s very common for those who have no desire to change the appearance of their nose to also seek out rhinoplasty to improve their breathing. This type of rhinoplasty, known as septoplasty, may change the outward appearance of the nose but the main purpose of it is to make alterations to the nasal passageway for health reasons.
NOSE RESHAPING CHANGES YOU MAY NEED
Do you have a good idea of what you want to change about your nose? Rhinoplasty surgery can treat a variety of cosmetic needs for various patients. If you have a medical need to fix a deviated septum or broken nose due to an injury, working closely with Prof . Dr Nauman Gill can address any concerns.
Reasons patients choose rhinoplasty:
- Remove a hump or bump on the bridge
- Narrow the bridge of the nose if it’s too wide
- Narrow or widen the nostrils
- Shorten the length of the nose
- Redefine a bulbous tip to create more harmony
- Straighten a crooked nose
A single change or a combination of alterations can be chosen to address different concerns. Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under IV Sedation Anesthesia. Depending on your nose and aesthetic goals, Prof . Dr Nauman Gill will perform either an open or closed rhinoplasty. An open rhinoplasty means an incision is made inside the nose and under the nose, between the nostrils. A closed rhinoplasty involves incisions made inside the nose. If you undergo rhinoplasty due to a physical injury or want a dramatic cosmetic change, an open rhinoplasty may be used. For minor changes, Prof . Dr Nauman Gill may suggest a closed rhinoplasty.
After the procedure, patients will rest comfortably in a recovery room, then return home the same day. Bruising and swelling will be visible for the first few days, and some patients experience discoloration around their eyes. Over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can help with any side effects. Postoperative appointments with Prof . Dr Nauman Gill will be scheduled after the first few days to check on the patient’s progress, then again in 2 – 4 weeks. During the healing process, patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercises or activities until cleared by their plastic surgeon.
